Gordon has always had a keen interest in visual art, graduating in 1967 from the University of Saskatchewan with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.

Marlene York lives with Gordon in Seaforth, Nova Scotia, Canada.
She works in a variety of media including graphite and charcoal drawings and watercolour, oil and mixed media paintings.
She teaches art classes for children and teens in her studio, and does workshops and murals for schools and galleries.
